  • Scholarships for 2019 IMA Student Leadership Conference in Charlotte, NC

Dear Students and Fellow Accounting and Finance Professors:
We are pleased to announce that the Mt. Rainier Chapter of IMA has again decided to support local students’ participation in this year’s IMA Student Leadership Conference which is to be held in Charlotte, NC, November 14 - 16. The conference begins Thursday evening and is finished by Saturday at 1:00 pm. allowing students to miss a minimum of academic classes. There will be optional office tours on Thursday afternoon for those who can arrive by early afternoon. Students will have the opportunity to hear speakers, participate in break out sessions, and interact with student leaders from other schools. There are even opportunities to interview for internships with select corporations. See http://www.imastudentconference.org/ for more information.
For students selected, the Mt. Rainier Chapter of IMA will cover the cost of conference registration (which includes membership in the IMA), transportation, and hotel. The conference includes meals beginning with the Thursday evening networking event through Saturday lunch. Students are responsible for personal expenditures. Based on the number of eligible applications, each student will need to share a room with another student of the same gender. Students may need to be able to find transportation to and from Sea-Tac airport.
Please help get the word out to interested accounting students who will benefit from this conference. Students who wish to apply for assistance should complete the attached application which asks them why they want to attend the annual IMA Student Leadership Conference and to describe their current and/or expected involvement in IMA. Since there are no IMA student chapters in the area, we don’t expect students to have significant current involvement. We will request that students remain active with IMA for at least a year after the conference. We would love to seem them get involved by attending local chapter meetings, submitting a newsletter article to the local chapter, or even sitting for the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exam.
Applications will be required no later than October 8 to ensure full consideration. Since travel will require the purchase of airline tickets, early decisions will assist in both the planning and the cost. We hope to be able to sponsor a total of 6-8 students. Please encourage your students to apply early.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at kris.k.parsons@gmail.com. The IMA Student Leadership Conference is truly an incredible career-building opportunity that your interested students will not want to miss!

    Best regards,
